If something has happened to you
You can use Report + Support in the way that feels safest and most manageable for you. You can make an anonymous report, opt into anonymous messaging or provide contact details so that the Safeguarding Team can contact you directly.
If someone tells you about a concern
- Listen without pressing for unnecessary detail.
- Take the person seriously and avoid judgement.
- Ask what would help and respect the person’s choices where it is safe and lawful to do so.
- Do not promise complete confidentiality. Explain that information may need to be shared if someone is at risk.
- Encourage the person to use Report + Support or seek direct support.
- If the person is in immediate danger, call 999.
Reporting for someone else
You can report a concern about another person. Be clear about what you know directly and what you have been told. Where possible and safe, tell the person that you are sharing the concern. Do not delay reporting where there is an immediate or serious safeguarding concern.
If you are under 18
The Safeguarding Team will consider your age, safety, views, capacity, confidentiality and support needs. Information will only be shared where there is an appropriate reason, including where action is necessary to protect you or someone else from harm.
Looking after yourself
Supporting someone or sharing a difficult experience can affect your own wellbeing. You can seek support for yourself, even if the original concern relates to someone else. The Student Support Team are on hand to support with the wellbeing of Students.
